*Good* Memories from My Mission

Because there were a few of them after all…
- Water coming out brown the first time I tried to take a bath in-country.
- Trying not to look at magazine stands.
- Observing Hamilton teaching Leuzinger how to say “Don’t bend over to pick up the soap.”
- Geschwister Böhme in Groitzsch.
- Driving Brigham home, turning left on Stauffenbergallee and flooring it in order get air off the jump in front of the apartment.
- Trying to set records for number of times going around the roundabout south of the ward building in Dresden.
- Ultimate frisbee im Großen Garten in DD.
- Taking photos involving Corn Flakes with Heil and Haglund im Büro.
- Maintaining my own shadow mission using the mission companionship tracking software. No one got transfered nine times in their 22 months in *my* version.
- Dynamo Dresden 0:0 1. FC Köln.
- That one spigot coming off a random building in Dresden from which the city’s only potable water flowed.
- Brooks somehow finding more money in the budget for one more run to McDonalds at the end of the month every month.
- The way the train platform PA announcer in Glauchau said “Glauchau”.
- Buying expired 7-Up by the case in Hohenstein-Ernstthal and having chicken feathers stuck to the cans.
- Weekly planning sessions as art projects.
- The night Hatch and Claudia showed up at the apartment at 2 AM in HOT.
- Hohenstein Gunar’s impeccable San Diego surfer accent.
- Zwickau Zone Conferences and P-Days — one of the best Thanksgivings ever, the Superbowl party in Anaberg, playing cards with Kent, et al, etc.
- Teaching the first four discussions with Ellis to the prostitute in Hof (“C.S.V.”?) who never actually told us what her name was, but who had an interesting (if un-eclectic) collection of video tapes.
- Bruder Bradley conducting Hof sacrament meeting in “German”.
- The Potato Boy of Hof.
- Doing splits (from Döbeln) to Mittweida where they had actual hot water in the apartment.
- Heating the apartment using the burners on the gas stove.
- Wilson, Reilly(, and me) beating the Germans at 3-on-3 indoor soccer.
- Walz’s apple pies.
- Tyler’s two-month-long recitation of The Lord of the Rings while doing doors.
- The bratwurst in Gera.

Thought I’d add a few *Good* memories I had with BKD (all my memories with him are good).
* Brian introducing me to Gyros
* Setting a “record” knocking 22 doors with no answer
* Brian and I buying the same sandals
* Giving my first talk in German and Brian being the only one who really understood everything
* 4th of July party in Zwickau
* At Brian’s suggestion, asking Pres. what you do immediately after you propose to your girlfriend/future fiancè (assuming she says yes) and getting an answer.
* The “Pillar of Fire”
* Claudia and Hatch banging on the door and entering the wohnung at 2AM (I’ve got a picture of them somewhere)
* Frau Albert trying to marry us off to everyone
* Role playing everything
* Talking in third person about each other. Very therapeutic.
* Doing curls with the red beds
* Visits with the Meyers and arguing about whether Henry Ford was German.
* Mushroom surprise and discussion about money at the Hübls
* Haircuts
* Pyramid of 7-up and Ja cans
* Note Brian left me just before I left with problems A thru D and the cure: “Dunn realizes that with faith in the Lord he need not fear. Dunn relaxes his critical outlook towards Hansons vague and untelling words/actions.”
Summary: You know how you just click with some people regardless of their backgrounds? It’s only happened a few times in my life. It’s true I get along with most people, but not like I did with Brian. I know he didn’t have any choice in the matter, but I’d like to thank him for all the wonderful memories we had together. I had a great mission because of Brian.
BKD had good experiences in Germany?
I’m only commenting because I want to know what the Pres said about the proposal question — did I do it right?
Driving around the roundabout — I want to party with this dude!
If only the shadow mission had not just been a cyber-fantasy. If only!
Sure, 27 of them. Why, that’s more than one a month! Of course I’m counting rusty bathwater as a “good memory” so take it all for what it’s worth.
